Frequently asked questions(12)

How do I make an online roadside assistance call?
Press button 3 on the online roadside assistance call button located in the front headliner. The red LED in the button will light up and the call will be placed. If pressed accidentally, simply press the button again.
What should I do if the emergency call function shows a fault message?
If the indicator lamp lights up with a fault message, you cannot make an emergency call. Drive to a qualified workshop as soon as possible and have the fault rectified. If the function is only partially available, some functions may not work (such as voice calls), but you can still attempt an emergency call.
What personal data does the EU eCall system collect and process?

How do I search for a navigation destination?
You can use internet search by entering search terms and selecting from suggestions provided by the search engine, or use hybrid search to enter destination details in any order (e.g. Forest Road 20 London). You can also search for special destinations or contacts. Alternatively, you can select from last destinations, favourites, contacts, or received destinations from the myAudi app.
Can I add multiple destinations during navigation?
Yes, you can enter stopovers while route guidance is active. The stopovers and tour plan display all destinations in a list. You can add, move, or delete stopovers as needed during your journey.
What warning does the manual give about following navigation recommendations?
The route calculated by the navigation system is a recommendation. Always adhere to locally applicable traffic laws and regulations. If the recommended route contradicts locally applicable traffic laws and regulations, these always take precedence as failure to do so creates a risk of accident.
What engine oil should I use to top up my Audi A8?
Use one of the oils that meet the engine oil standard specified on the sticker located at the front of the engine compartment. For petrol engines: VW 504 00, ACEA C3, ACEA C4, API SP or ILSAC GF-6A. For diesel engines: VW 507 00, ACEA C3, ACEA C4 or API CK-4. If the specified oil is not available, you can add a maximum of 0.5 litres of oil corresponding to these standards once between oil changes in an emergency only. Audi recommends using engine oil from Audi Genuine Parts.
What should I do if the 'Please warm up engine' message appears?
Drive in transmission position S, run the engine at high rpm speeds but avoid using full throttle. You should drive for at least 30 minutes; however the indicator lamp may not go out during this period. Repeat the procedure at your convenience. If the indicator lamp does not disappear after several runs, drive to a qualified workshop and have the fault rectified. When responding to this message, you must adjust your speed to suit the weather, road, terrain and traffic conditions, and never disregard local traffic regulations.
How do I check the engine oil level?
Park the vehicle on a level surface, switch off the warm engine, switch on the ignition again without starting the engine, and wait about 5 minutes for the engine oil to drain back into the sump. On the MMI home screen, select CAR > Settings & service > Oil level and read off the oil level on the display. Top up the engine oil if the bar in the oil level display is near the 'min' mark.
What coolant should I use and in what concentration?
Use a mixture of distilled water and the specified coolant additive G12evo TL 774 L. The concentration depends on expected winter temperatures: for hot regions use 40-45% additive (frost protection minimum -25°C/-13°F), and for cold regions use 50-55% additive (frost protection maximum -40°C/-40°F). Have a qualified workshop check the cooling system before winter to ensure adequate anti-freeze concentration.
What should I know about the brake fluid in my vehicle?
The brake fluid level must be between the MIN and MAX marks on the reservoir located underneath a cover in the engine compartment on the driver's side. The brake fluid must comply with the VW 501 14 standard, or alternatively a high-quality brake fluid complying with FMVSS 116 DOT 4, Class 6 (ISO 4925). If the brake fluid level is under the MIN mark, the effectiveness of the brakes and the safety of the vehicle may be impaired - do not drive on and seek professional assistance. Brake fluid must be changed at regular intervals by a qualified workshop.
Can I replace the 12-volt vehicle battery myself?
No. Any work on the battery must be carried out by a qualified workshop. The 12-volt vehicle battery has been developed for use in its installation location and is equipped with safety features. When replacing it, only maintenance-free 12-volt lead batteries to standards TL 825 06 and VW 7 50 73 (from October 2014 or later) may be used with the same specifications and dimensions as the factory-fitted battery. The vehicle electronics must be calibrated as part of the replacement procedure, and only qualified workshops have the equipment required to perform this correctly.
