Frequently asked questions(12)

What should I do if a warning or indicator lamp lights up?
Note the information displayed in the instrument cluster. Some warning and indicator lamps may be accompanied by a driver message and warning tone. To display driver messages again, open the notification centre on the centre display.
What does the central warning lamp indicate?
The central warning or indicator lamp lights up to indicate functions or faults. When it illuminates, you should note the information shown in the instrument cluster.
Can the outside temperature display be used as an ice warning?
No. Do not rely on the outside temperature display as an ice warning. Bear in mind that there may be patches of ice on the roads even at outside temperatures around +5°C – this presents a risk of accident. At temperatures below +5°C a snowflake symbol appears next to the temperature display.
What display areas are shown in the instrument cluster?
The instrument cluster is divided into a left display area showing on-board computer information (date, time, mileage, consumption, AdBlue range), a central display area showing vehicle operation information (speed, navigation, driver assistance), a right display area showing infotainment content (radio, media, telephone, navigation), and a status bar at the top and bottom displaying warning lamps, remaining range, transmission position, and outside temperature.
How do I operate the instrument cluster?
You can operate the instrument cluster using controls on the multi-function steering wheel. Press once to select left or right display areas, press multiple times to change tabs, and press or swipe to scroll up or down within a selected tab. You can also change the brightness in the Car menu.
How do I program a garage door opener in my vehicle?
You can program systems in the Car menu by pressing the + button and following the MMI instructions. The vehicle must be switched on and within range of the system. For some systems, you must also synchronize the hand-held transmitter after programming.
What should I do if a turn signal bulb fails?
If an indicator lamp flashes twice as fast as usual, a turn signal bulb has failed. You should drive carefully to a qualified workshop without delay and have the fault rectified.
How does the main beam assist work?
The main beam assist automatically switches the main beam headlights on or off depending on surrounding light conditions. A camera detects light sources from other road users and activates or deactivates individual segments automatically. On matrix LED headlights, sectors are masked to avoid dazzling other drivers.
What are the different light switch positions and what do they do?
The light switch module offers: AUTO (headlights switch on automatically by ambient light), dipped headlights (turn on when vehicle is switched on), side lights (available below 10 km/h), and OFF (available below 10 km/h).
How can I adjust the brightness of interior reading lights?
To dim a reading light, touch the surface when the light is switched off and hold your finger on it until you reach the desired brightness level.
What is the warning about using the garage door opener?
When operating or programming the garage door opener, ensure no persons or objects are close to the devices receiving transmitter signals, as persons might be injured or damage caused by moving parts. Also, do not allow looking at displays and operating the centre display to distract you from watching traffic.
What should I never put in the ashtray?
Never put waste paper in the ashtray, as this could cause a fire.
