Frequently asked questions(12)

What should I do if I accidentally lock my vehicle with the key inside?
The central locking system includes safeguards to prevent accidental lock-out. When the driver's door is open, you cannot lock the vehicle by pressing the lock button on the key or touching the locking sensor on the front doors. If the vehicle key is detected inside the vehicle, the system will not allow the vehicle to be locked from the outside (for vehicles with convenience key). For manual locking/unlocking, contact an Audi dealer to have the situation addressed.
Can I leave children alone in a locked vehicle?
No. The manual explicitly warns: 'Do not leave anyone (especially children) in the car if it is locked from the outside: the windows cannot then be opened from the inside. Locked doors could delay assistance in an emergency, potentially putting lives at risk.' Additionally, if the safelock mechanism is activated, doors and windows cannot be opened from inside. Never leave children unattended in a locked vehicle.
How do I replace the battery in my vehicle key?
The new battery must be CR 2032 type. Use a coin to lever off the cover on the rear of the key. Insert the new battery with the '+' symbol facing up, then press the cover back onto the key until it clicks into place. If the LED does not flash when you press the buttons, the battery is flat and needs replacement.
What is the safelock mechanism and why is it dangerous?
The safelock mechanism prevents doors from being opened from the inside, making it more difficult to break into the vehicle. However, the manual warns: 'Do not leave anyone (especially children) in the car if it is locked from the outside and the safelock mechanism is activated: the doors and windows cannot then be opened from the inside. Locked doors could delay assistance in an emergency, potentially putting lives at risk.' You must deactivate safelock if you leave people behind in the vehicle.
How do I open the boot lid if the power-operated system fails?
The boot lid can be opened and closed manually if the power-operated mechanism fails or the vehicle battery is low, though this requires more effort. If you move the boot lid slowly, less effort will be required. Additionally, the boot lid can be released manually from inside by folding the rear seat backrest forwards, prying off the cover using the vehicle key, and pressing the release lever.
What is the roll-back function on electric windows?
The electric windows have a roll-back function where the window may stop moving upwards automatically and may also re-open even when there does not appear to be an obstacle. To ensure the window closes fully, pull and hold the electric window switch until the window is completely closed.
What should I do during the first 1,500 km when I own a new Q2?
The vehicle should be run in over the first 1,500 km to allow all moving parts to settle together. For the first 1,000 km, do not exceed two thirds of the engine's maximum rpm speed and do not accelerate at full throttle. You can increase engine speed gradually over the next 500 km.
How does the start/stop system work and when is it active?
The start/stop system automatically switches off the engine when the vehicle stops, such as at traffic lights, to save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions. The system is automatically activated each time you switch on the ignition. The engine automatically restarts on demand. Basic conditions required include: driver's door and bonnet closed, driver's seat belt buckled, automatic gearbox in P/N/D or manual gearbox in neutral, steering wheel relatively straight, and vehicle must have been moving at over 3 km/h since the last stop.
What is launch control and how do I use it?
Launch control is a feature that provides maximum acceleration from a standstill. To use it: Press the brake pedal with your left foot and hold it down for at least one second. While keeping the brake pressed, press the accelerator all the way down with your right foot. When engine revs are high and steady, take your foot off the brake. Driving program S must be selected and Audi drive select must be set to dynamic mode. Warning: Only use when road and traffic conditions permit. The function places heavy load on vehicle components and may not be available for several minutes after use due to component heat.
Why might my brakes feel less effective and what should I do?
If the brake system is wet, such as after driving in heavy rain, the braking effect may be delayed. Other causes of temporary increased brake response time include wet conditions, low temperatures, ice and snow, salted roads, and dirty brake pads. To ensure optimum braking effect, the brake system cleans itself at regular intervals by applying brake pads to discs briefly at high speeds when windscreen wipers are on. If corrosion has formed on brake discs from infrequent use, you can clean them by braking firmly a few times from a moderately high speed.
What are the basic conditions needed for the start/stop system to switch off the engine?
The following conditions must be met: The driver's door and bonnet must be closed, the driver's seat belt must be buckled, the automatic gearbox must be in transmission position P, N or D (or manual gearbox in neutral), the steering wheel must be relatively straight, and the vehicle must have been moving at over 3 km/h since the last stop.
How do new brake pads affect braking performance?
New brake pads do not give full braking effect for the first 400 km; they must first be bedded in. However, you can compensate for the slightly reduced braking effect by applying more pressure on the brake pedal. Avoid placing a heavy load on the brakes during the running-in period.
