Frequently asked questions(12)

What is my responsibility as a driver when using assistance systems?
As the driver, you bear full responsibility for the driving task at all times. The assistance systems cannot replace driver attention. You must devote your full attention to driving and be ready to intervene in traffic at any moment. You should verify system settings before each journey, as other drivers may have changed them. (Page 152)
What objects might sensors and cameras fail to detect?
Sensors and cameras have blind spots where the environment is not detected. Objects, animals, and persons in these areas cannot or only partially be detected. Additionally, certain objects may be only partially recognized: objects above the detection area (such as bumpers of parked vehicles or hanging objects), low obstacles, narrow objects (chains, trees, poles, fences), protruding objects (trailer couplings), and objects with certain surfaces or structures (fabrics). You must always monitor traffic and the vehicle's surroundings through direct sight. (Pages 153-154)
How does the speed warning system work?
The speed warning system helps keep the vehicle below a set maximum speed by alerting the driver when a stored threshold is slightly exceeded. When the speed exceeds the stored value, the system provides a display indication in the instrument cluster and a warning tone. Once the speed falls below the stored limit, the indication ceases. You should still independently monitor compliance with locally applicable speed limits using the speedometer. (Page 156)
What are the limitations of traffic sign recognition?
Traffic sign recognition has system limits and is unavailable or restricted in poor visibility (snow, rain, fog, heavy spray), glare conditions (oncoming traffic or sun), at high speeds, when the camera view is blocked (dirt or stickers), when signs are partially or fully obscured (trees, snow, dirt, other vehicles), when signs don't meet standards, when damaged or bent, when displayed with pulsed light signals on overhead gantries, and when signs or road layouts have changed but navigation data is outdated. The system may also incorrectly recognize speed stickers on slow vehicles like trucks. (Page 157)
When will traffic light information not be available?
Traffic light information is unavailable or restricted when exceeding the speed limit, below a minimum speed threshold, when the next traffic light is less than 30 meters away, when expected wait time at red light is under four seconds, when no traffic light data is available, during emergency vehicle or public transport priority, at construction zone lights or service mode traffic lights, during traffic sign recognition warnings, when sign recognition is disrupted or unavailable, when data connection is lost, when data transmission is disabled in privacy settings, or when the license has expired. (Pages 158-159)
What should I do if the traffic sign recognition camera view is blocked?
If the camera view is blocked, you should clean the windshield. A driver message will indicate when the camera view is environmentally restricted. Ensure sensors and cameras remain clean and free from snow, ice, and deposits. Do not use attachments, stickers, or other parts that obstruct the camera view. (Pages 154, 158)
How do I release the parking brake in an emergency?
Press the yellow release button downward using a screwdriver, simultaneously press the unlock button on the selector lever, and move it to position N. The parking brake must only be released when the vehicle is secured against rolling (see page 100). Do not drive with the emergency release engaged—risk of accident.
What should I do if the transmission is overheating?
If the message 'Getriebe: zu heiß. Bitte anhalten' appears, stop driving immediately. Select gear P and seek professional help. If the message says 'Fahrweise anpassen', drive more conservatively or take a break until temperature returns to normal and the warning light turns off.
How does the start-stop system work?
The start-stop system automatically stops the engine when the vehicle comes to a halt (e.g., at a traffic light) to save fuel and reduce CO₂ emissions. The system restarts the engine when driving conditions permit. Zündung and critical supporting systems like the brake booster remain active during stops. Basic requirements include closed driver door and engine hood, appropriate gear selection, and vehicle speed exceeding 3 km/h since the last stop.
What driving practices improve fuel efficiency and environmental impact?
Select Audi drive select efficiency mode, turn off unnecessary electrical consumers like seat heating, drive anticipatively by avoiding unnecessary acceleration and braking, avoid high speeds, remove unnecessary luggage and roof racks, maintain proper tire pressure, keep the vehicle regularly serviced, avoid idling, don't use winter tires in summer, use the start-stop system, use engine braking, avoid short trips, and brake early and smoothly to utilize recuperation.
When should I disable the start-stop system?
You should disable the start-stop system during water fords to protect the engine from water ingestion. Additionally, the system automatically switches to manual starting if conditions during a stop phase are not met, requiring use of the START ENGINE STOP button.
How does coasting (Freilauf) work and what should I be aware of?
Coasting decouples the engine allowing the vehicle to roll without engine braking to save fuel. For conventional and mild-hybrid vehicles it activates automatically between approximately 16–130 km/h in D or E modes, and 40–160 km/h for mild-hybrid vehicles. Warning: With coasting active, engine braking is absent and the vehicle may not decelerate as expected or may accelerate on downhill stretches—accident hazard. You can stop coasting by accelerating or braking.
