Frequently asked questions(12)
- What is the correct distance my torso should be from the steering wheel?
- Your torso must be at least 25 cm away from the steering wheel to ensure the airbag system can protect you correctly. Being too close to the steering wheel or dashboard prevents proper airbag protection and risks severe or fatal injury (page 66).
- Can I recline the backrest while driving?
- No. You should never drive with the backrest reclined too far. The airbag system and seat belts can only provide proper protection when the backrest is in an upright position and you are wearing the seat belt correctly. If the backrest is reclined, the seat belt may slide away from harder body parts towards softer areas such as the stomach, increasing injury risk (page 66).
- How should I wear my seat belt correctly?
- The lap belt section must be worn tightly across your hips, never over the stomach or abdomen. The shoulder section must be fitted across the centre of your shoulder and torso, never under the arm, behind the back, or over the neck or face. The seat belt must make firm and even contact with your body. During pregnancy, wear the lap belt as low as possible across the hips underneath the rounded stomach (page 72).
- What should I do if the airbag system warning lamp lights up while driving?
- Drive to a qualified workshop without delay and have the fault rectified. If the indicator lamp does not light up when you switch on the ignition, if it does not go out after a few seconds, or if it lights up or flashes while driving, there is a fault in one of the safety systems. Having the fault examined without delay is essential, as otherwise the systems may fail to trigger in an accident, potentially resulting in serious or fatal injury (page 75).
- Can I use a rearward-facing child restraint system on the front passenger's seat?
- A child in a rearward-facing child restraint system on the front passenger's seat could suffer severe impact if the front passenger's airbag deploys—risk of severe or fatal injury. If your vehicle has a key-operated deactivation switch for the front passenger's airbag, you may use a rearward-facing system only if you deactivate the airbag beforehand and verify the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp remains lit while driving. Vehicles without this deactivation switch do not permit rearward-facing systems on the front passenger's seat (page 79).
- How do I attach a child restraint system using ISOFIX anchorages?
- Activate the child lock, open the flaps for the two ISOFIX anchorages located between the seat cushion and backrest, secure the child restraint system according to the manufacturer's instructions, and pull on the system to check that both sides have engaged properly in the anchorages. If possible, also secure the child restraint system to the corresponding top tether anchorage. The ISOFIX anchorages are designed for a maximum total weight of 33 kg (page 81).
- How do I manually release a stuck charging connector?
- First try electrical release by unlocking the vehicle three times in quick succession with the vehicle key, then attempt to unplug immediately. If still stuck, open the bonnet, open the cover in the engine compartment, release the yellow ring from its holder, and carefully pull it. Stop pulling when you feel resistance to avoid damaging the mechanism. After manual release, secure the ring in its holder again and drive to a qualified workshop without delay.
- What charging target should I set for everyday use versus long journeys?
- For everyday use, Audi recommends setting the charging target to 80% to help maximise the service life of the high-voltage battery. Before embarking on a long journey, set the charging target to 100% to achieve the highest possible range. You should set off as soon as possible after charging to 100%, or use timer charging mode if necessary.
- How should I safely transport the charging equipment?
- Always stow the charging equipment safely in the luggage compartment prior to transport. Put the equipment in the transport bag and tie a knot to close it. Attach the hook to one of the fastening rings in the luggage compartment. The charging equipment must NOT be transported without the transport bag or in the passenger compartment, as unsecured equipment can become dislodged and injure occupants during braking, turning, or accidents.
- What does it mean when the status LED is pulsating green on the Audi e-tron compact charging system?
- A pulsating green LED on the operating unit indicates the vehicle is being charged with PE conductor monitoring activated. It can also indicate the mains plug has overheated (with yellow LED lit), in which case the vehicle will charge with reduced power until the plug cools down.
- What are the operating temperature and humidity requirements for the Audi charging system?
- The Audi charging system should be used and stored at temperatures between -30 °C and +50 °C, and at relative humidity between 5% and 95% (non-condensing). It is protected against dust and water jets (IP55) and should only be used in power grids with a mains frequency of 50 Hz/60 Hz.
- Can I use the mode 3 charging cable as an extension cable for the Audi e-tron compact charging system?
- No. Do not use the charging cable as an extension cable for the Audi charging system, as this will cause a charging cycle malfunction.
